Final expense insurance made simple

Final expense (burial) insurance is a small whole-life policy, typically $5,000 to $50,000, designed to cover funeral costs, medical bills and other end-of-life expenses so your family doesn’t have to. Most plans need no medical exam, and many have premiums that never increase once issued. We connect you with licensed agents who can quote plans for your age and health.

Worth knowing

Three things to understand before you compare

Fixed premiums

Final expense policies are whole life, so the premium you start with is the one you keep, and coverage doesn’t end at a certain age.

Graded vs. level benefits

Level plans pay the full benefit from day one. Graded and guaranteed-issue plans may pay a reduced benefit if death occurs in the first two years, except by accident.

Your beneficiary gets cash

The benefit is paid to the person you name, generally income-tax free, and can be used for anything: the funeral, medical bills, debts or an inheritance.

Final Expense questions

Answers before you start

How much does final expense insurance cost?
Premiums depend on age, gender, health and the benefit amount. A $10,000 policy for a 65-year-old in reasonable health often runs $30 to $70 a month. The agent you’re matched with can quote exact figures.
Do I need a medical exam?
No. Final expense policies use health questions instead of an exam, and guaranteed issue plans ask no health questions at all.
Can I be turned down?
Level and graded plans have some health questions, so some applicants are offered a different plan instead. Guaranteed issue plans accept applicants in the eligible age range regardless of health.
Is this the same as prepaying a funeral home?
No. A pre-need contract is tied to one funeral home. A final expense policy pays cash to your beneficiary, who can use it anywhere.
Does it cost anything to use this service?
No. Our service is free to you and there is no obligation. We are compensated by the agents and partners in our network.
